Sentence for Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel, has been determined: Minister Tunç announced

Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, was arrested for the crime of "intentional injury due to a public duty." Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç evaluated how many years of imprisonment Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel, could face.

It was revealed after the attack that Tengioğlu had previously been imprisoned in 2004 for murdering two of his children and injuring one.

Speaking to TÜRKGÜN Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Müftüoğlu, who was a guest on the program Farklı Açılar on tv100, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced how many years of imprisonment Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel, could face.

"HE COULD RECEIVE A 4.5-YEAR SENTENCE"

Yılmaz Tunç's statement is as follows: "The definition of this crime committed against Özgür Özel is simple assault. The penalty for this is normally 1 year.

However, because this attack was carried out against someone performing a public duty, the sentence is increased by half.

In other words, it increases from 1 year to 1.5 years because he attacked someone holding a public office. So, if nothing else had happened, he could have received a 1.5-year sentence.

However, because the attacker violated his parole and committed a new crime, twice that sentence is added. In other words, with his 1.5-year standard sentence and the 3 years coming from his parole violation, he could receive a sentence of approximately 4.5 years."
