In Istanbul's Bayrampaşa district, the municipality, which had passed to CHP administration after 30 years in the local elections, changed hands following the arrest of Mayor Hasan Mutlu. While the CHP won the first acting mayor election, the election was canceled as a result of an AKP objection.
The AKP's candidate won the second acting mayor election.
The process began with the resignations of CHP council members Ali Karahasanoğlu and Sadi Teker following a controversy over an illegal cafe in the municipality. The two individuals resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP. The CHP's loss of its majority reversed the situation in the second round.
