Social media argument ends in murder

In Istanbul's Esenyurt district, a verbal altercation that began on social media between two parties escalated first into a physical assault and then into murder. 18-year-old Davut Çelik lost his life in the resulting knife fight. Three other people were injured, two of them critically. 30-year-old Mehmet Y., who is alleged to have committed the murder, was apprehended with the knife used in the incident.

At approximately 16:45 today, police received a report of a knife fight involving a large group in Esenyurt Square. Police teams arriving quickly at the scene determined that 4 people had been injured in the knife fight between two groups and had been sent to various hospitals.

ONE PERSON LOST THEIR LIFE

Police teams conducting investigations at the hospitals where the injured were taken determined that 18-year-old Davut Çelik, one of those wounded in the incident, had passed away. They also determined that two of the three other injured individuals were in critical condition.

SUSPECT APPREHENDED WITH KNIFE

Gathering information immediately following the incident, police teams quickly apprehended Mehmet Y., who was identified as the person who used the knife in the fight between the two groups. The suspect was taken into custody along with the knife used in the incident and transported to the police station.

SOCIAL MEDIA ARGUMENT ESCALATED TO MURDER

Police teams working on the case soon uncovered the reason behind the knife fight.

According to allegations, the deceased Davut Çelik and the injured Yakup Ç. had engaged in an exchange of insults on social media a few days ago and had assaulted Cihat Y. Cihat Y. went to the police with his relative, Mehmet Y., to file a complaint regarding the matter. Following this, the police initiated an investigation into the suspects. After the complaint was filed, Cihat Y. and his relative encountered the suspects in Esenyurt Square. This encounter led to the knife fight between the two groups. A comprehensive investigation into the incident is ongoing.
