A stinging response from the public to reactionaries disrespecting Atatürk
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding leader of the Republic of Turkey, is being commemorated with respect and gratitude on the 87th anniversary of his passing. Citizens in Kocaeli responded to reactionaries who targeted the mawlid to be recited for Atatürk.
The response to a group of Aczimendi sect members who protested the Kocaeli Mufti's decision to have a mawlid recited for Atatürk with takbirs came from the citizens.
Following the Kocaeli Governor's Office's announcement that a mawlid-i sharif would be recited in all mosques across the city on Monday, November 10, to mark the anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's passing, protest actions were carried out by approximately 25 reactionary sect members in Istanbul and 10-15 in Kocaeli.
