Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who was detained on February 28 on charges of "extortion by duress" and subsequently arrested, said in a post on his social media account, "May God not take anyone's life without asking them what they made me go through!"
Özcan included the following statements in his post:
"If you pay the municipality's debts, if you do not engage in partisanship, if you hold transparent tenders, if you try to find resources for scholarships for students and support for the disabled and those in need; if you defeat them at the ballot box every time, they first throw you in prison, and then slander you behind your back!
May God not take anyone's life without asking them what they made me go through!"
