'The Minister made a big mistake' dialogue in committee caught on microphone: They thought it was off
The Parliamentary Investigation Committee on Violence and Abuse Against Children convened under the chairmanship of AKP Aksaray Deputy Cengiz Aydoğdu. Before the meeting began, a dialogue between Committee Chair Aydoğdu and Deputy Chair Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu drew attention.
The dialogue between Aydoğdu and Katırcıoğlu was captured by the microphones on the table, which were left on during the meeting:
"Cengiz Aydoğdu: The Minister made a big mistake... Now she has called the Minister too.
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: Is that so?
Cengiz Aydoğdu: She is going to call or...
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: Where is she going to call? Is the Minister calling her to her office,
Cengiz Aydoğdu: No, she said to the committee or something.
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: Did our Ms. Derya call?
Cengiz Aydoğdu: That's what I heard, did I hear wrong?
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: There is no such thing.
Cengiz Aydoğdu: Then it's wrong.
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: But if it's outside my concern, I don't know... How could such a thing happen..."
As Aydoğdu and Katırcıoğlu finished their conversation, they noticed the microphones. Aydoğdu asked, "Anyway, are these working?" while pointing at the microphones, and Katırcıoğlu checked them by tapping them with her hand.
Later, Cengiz Aydoğdu began his speech by asking, "Shall we start? Are these microphones working before we begin?"
The "Ms. Derya" mentioned in the dialogue is Derya Yanık, who served as the Minister of Family and Social Services before Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş.
AKP Osmaniye Deputy Derya Yanık currently serves as the Chair of the Human Rights Investigation Committee.
HEARINGS TO BE MONITORED BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The Investigation Committee on Violence and Abuse Against Children has also formed two sub-committees to monitor both the Narin Güran murder trial in Diyarbakır and the hearing regarding baby Sıla, who was abused and lost her life in the hospital in Tekirdağ on December 26.
The conversation between Aydoğdu and Katırcıoğlu regarding the committee's monitoring of the hearings also drew attention. Aydoğdu's remark about the decision to attend the hearings, saying "if we don't go, they will raise hell," was captured on the microphone as follows.
"Cengiz Aydoğdu: We decided to go to both trials. Other committees are going; if we don't go, they will raise hell. But like this, in two committees... Will it be 3 people each, or 5 people each...
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: 3 would be fine. But if everyone from the political parties wants to participate, then it will be five.
Cengiz Aydoğdu: The chair will be from us. One or two people from us should also participate.
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: I am a member of the Human Rights Committee, so I am already on duty.
Cengiz Aydoğdu: Then we will make you the chair of the committee that will go to Narin's. You will be in both that committee and this committee.
Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu: Okay, that works. I will be there representing both committees."
On the other hand, members of the Human Rights Investigation Committee will also go to Diyarbakır to observe the December 26 hearing of the case regarding the murder of Narin Güran.
