They did not file a complaint against their father who killed their mother

On August 31, 2023, an argument broke out between the Leyla-Hakkı Koca couple while their car was in motion in the Emek Zekai Gümüşdiş neighborhood of Bursa's Osmangazi district.

Taking advantage of Hakkı Koca slowing the car down, Leyla Koca got out of the vehicle and tried to flee. Hakkı Koca, who chased after her, stabbed his wife 4 times with a knife he pulled from his pocket.

Those moments were also captured by a business's security camera. Leyla Koca, a mother of 4, was taken to the hospital but lost her life. Hakkı Koca was taken into custody.

The trial of Koca, who faces a lawsuit with a request for aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional killing against a spouse and a woman', continued at the Bursa 1st High Criminal Court. In his statement at the hearing, the detained defendant claimed that his wife had a lover, saying, "Leyla had a lover named M.Z. I knew this. On the day of the incident, we were traveling together in my car. She took my phone and spoke with her lover. Later, she threw the phone at me, saying, 'M.'s children are following me.' I argued with M.Z. on the phone. During this time, my wife got out of the vehicle and started running away. I went after her. Three people, including a woman, who got out of a vehicle coming behind us, attacked me with iron bars. As a result of the blows I received, I fell on top of Leyla, who was on the ground. I stabbed her once there; I don't remember what happened after that. Later, I learned that there were 4 stab wounds on her body."

DAUGHTERS TESTIFIED SEPARATELY

In the 2nd hearing of the case, the couple's daughters testified separately as witnesses. M.K., who claimed that their mother had a lover named M.Z., that she stayed with him on some days, that she treated her and her sibling poorly and did not care for them, and that she constantly insulted their father, continued as follows:

"My mother and father would occasionally argue over trivial matters. My father worked, and my mother never cared for us. During this time, my mother met someone and left the house 2 days later. After a while, my mother started sending messages to my father saying, 'I don't love you, go to hell. I am very happy where I went.' My mother had a relationship for the last 1.5 years before she died. My mother had cheated on my father. I am not filing a complaint against my father."

Ş.K. also stated that there were always problems in her parents' marriage, saying, "My father's mental state is not normal. But my mother would constantly come home and provoke my father by praising M.Z. My mother would always leave the house. I was very sad for my father's situation. I am not filing a complaint against my father," she stated.

Detained defendant Hakkı Koca's lawyer, Adnan Mutlu, stated that his client did not premeditate the incident, saying, "Before the incident, the victim's running away with another man was debated on a television channel in front of all of Turkey. If my client had wanted to kill her, he would have done it then."

The court adjourned the hearing and decided to continue the defendant's detention.
