TÜİK announces: Life expectancy in Turkey has risen to 78.5 years

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has published its Life Tables for the 2023-2025 period. According to the data, the average number of years a newborn individual in Turkey is expected to live under current mortality risks has been calculated as 78.5 years.

Life expectancy at birth was 78.1 years in the 2022-2024 period. With the latest data, an increase of 0.4 years has been recorded in this indicator.

The gap between women and men persisted. Life expectancy at birth for men was 75.9 years, while it was determined to be 81.1 years for women. Accordingly, women are expected to live an average of 5.2 years longer than men.

REMAINING LIFE EXPECTANCY BY AGE GROUPS

According to TÜİK data, the average remaining life expectancy for individuals aged 15, which is considered the start of the working age, was 64.7 years. This duration was calculated as 62.1 years for men and 67.3 years for women.

The average remaining life expectancy for a 30-year-old person was announced as 50.3 years. In the same age group, the remaining time was 47.8 years for men and 52.7 years for women. For individuals aged 50, the average remaining life expectancy was recorded as 31.3 years.

The average remaining life expectancy for people aged 65 was calculated as 18.4 years. At this age, men are expected to live an average of 16.7 more years, and women 20 more years. Thus, the expected duration for 65-year-old women was 3.3 years longer than for men.

The data showed that life expectancy increases as the level of education rises. For 30-year-old men, the difference in life expectancy between those with below-secondary education and those with higher education was 5.1 years, while this difference was determined to be 4.6 years for women.

According to TÜİK's calculations, healthy life expectancy, which refers to the number of years expected to be lived without health problems that limit daily life activities, was 58 years at birth in total. This duration was calculated as 59.1 years for men and 56.9 years for women.
