Up to 4 years and 6 months in prison requested for Nasuh Mahruki: Indictment completed

The investigation conducted against the former President of the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), Nasuh Mahruki, regarding his social media posts concerning the July 15 coup attempt, has been completed.

In the indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that Mahruki, who was arrested on July 17 on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility or insulting them," be sentenced to up to 4 years and 6 months in prison.

The indictment stated that the act subject to the accusation was carried out through press and media channels. For this reason, the prosecution requested the application of Article 218 of the Turkish Penal Code, which stipulates a 50 percent increase in the sentence.

The trial process for Mahruki is expected to be clarified after the indictment is evaluated by the court.
