Yeni Şafak columnist İbrahim Karagül to pay compensation to İmamoğlu
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has won the compensation lawsuit he filed against Yeni Şafak columnist İbrahim Karagül. It was ruled that Karagül must pay non-pecuniary damages.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has won the compensation lawsuit he filed against Yeni Şafak columnist İbrahim Karagül. The court ruled that Karagül must pay 20 thousand TL in non-pecuniary damages.
Attorneys for both parties were present at the final hearing held on December 27 at the Bakırköy 16th Civil Court of First Instance. The court accepted the case and ruled that Karagül must pay 20 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages to İmamoğlu.
In the announced verdict, it was decided that the compensation, along with legal interest, should be collected from the defendant and paid to the plaintiff starting from March 31, 2024. The ruling stated that the right to appeal at the Regional Court of Justice remains open.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Yeni Şafak columnist İbrahim Karagül had claimed in a post on his social media account that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was "transferring money to Kandil" and "distributing bribes from the İBB treasury."
Following this, İmamoğlu's lawyers filed a 20 thousand TL non-pecuniary compensation lawsuit against Karagül at the Bakırköy Duty Civil Court of First Instance.
