Bayraktar: Increases in costs such as input prices, logistics, and labor have also driven up olive oil prices
Şemsi Bayraktar, President of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB), stated that in November, the largest gap between producer and market prices for certain agricultural products was seen in lemons, at 548.1 percent.
Şemsi Bayraktar, President of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB), evaluated the changes in producer and market prices for certain agricultural products in November and the reasons for these changes in a statement.
Reporting that the largest price gap between producer and market in November was seen in lemons at 548.1 percent, Bayraktar stated, "The price gap in lemons was followed by oranges at 423.6 percent, tangerines at 359.1 percent, dry onions at 305.4 percent, lettuce at 265.3 percent, and green onions at 215.4 percent."
Pointing out that lemons were sold at 6.5 times the price, oranges at 5.2 times, tangerines at 4.6 times, dry onions at 4.1 times, lettuce at 3.7 times, and green onions at 3.2 times their producer price, Bayraktar provided the following information:
"Lemons, which were 2 Turkish Lira and 10 kuruş at the producer, were sold for 13 Turkish Lira and 61 kuruş in the market; oranges, which were 4 Turkish Lira and 50 kuruş, were sold for 23 Turkish Lira and 50 kuruş; tangerines, which were 4 Turkish Lira and 50 kuruş, were sold for 20 Turkish Lira and 66 kuruş; dry onions, which were 3 Turkish Lira and 50 kuruş, were sold for 14 Turkish Lira and 19 kuruş; lettuce, which was 5 Turkish Lira and 86 kuruş, was sold for 21 Turkish Lira and 41 kuruş; and green onions, which were 7 Turkish Lira and 71 kuruş, were sold for 24 Turkish Lira and 33 kuruş in the market."
CUCUMBER IS THE PRODUCT WITH THE HIGHEST PRICE INCREASE IN THE MARKET
Stating that in November (October 27-November 27), prices increased for 29 out of 37 products in the market compared to the previous month, decreased for 6, and remained unchanged for 2, Bayraktar noted that the product with the highest price increase in the market was cucumbers at 69.2 percent.
Bayraktar reported that the price increase in cucumbers was followed by zucchini at 62 percent, olive oil at 39.5 percent, pistachios at 38.5 percent, and green onions at 31.5 percent, while the product with the largest price decrease in the market was lemons at 17.2 percent, followed by lettuce at 11.8 percent, tomatoes and red lentils at 11.5 percent, and apples at 2.5 percent.
Stating that in November, prices increased for 13 out of 29 products at the producer level, decreased for 7, and remained unchanged for 9, Bayraktar said:
"Last month, the price of lettuce, which was 7 Turkish Lira and 71 kuruş at the producer, fell by 24.1 percent to 5 Turkish Lira and 86 kuruş. The price drop in lettuce was followed by tomatoes at 21.1 percent, dry beans at 14.2 percent, dry onions at 11.2 percent, and spinach at 2.2 percent. The highest price increase at the producer level was seen in cucumbers at 113.8 percent. The price increase in cucumbers was followed by eggplants at 76.1 percent, zucchini at 54.8 percent, apples at 31.6 percent, and olive oil at 25.1 percent."
REASONS FOR PRICE CHANGES
While providing information on the reasons for producer price changes, Bayraktar stated that seasonal intensity in lettuce supply and a decrease in demand for dry beans caused a decline in prices.
Stating that supply increased in tomatoes due to higher yields and the start of greenhouse production, leading to a decline in prices, Bayraktar noted that prices for cucumbers, zucchini, eggplants, and green peppers increased due to a contraction in their supply. Bayraktar pointed out that increases in costs such as input prices, logistics, and labor also drove up olive oil prices.
