Competition Authority grants conditional approval for A101's acquisition of CarrefourSA: 48 stores to be divested
The Competition Authority has approved the acquisition of CarrefourSA by Yeni Mağazacılık, subject to conditions including the divestment of 48 stores, employment protection, and support for producers.
The Competition Authority has granted permission for the acquisition of CarrefourSA by Yeni Mağazacılık, the parent company of A101, provided that certain commitments are fulfilled. The decision includes a series of obligations, including store divestments, aimed at protecting competition in the retail sector.
Under the board's conditional approval, a total of 48 stores will need to be divested. It was stated that 10 of these stores belong to A101, while 38 are branches currently owned by CarrefourSA. This step is intended to maintain the competitive balance in the market following the acquisition.
The decision also stipulates that CarrefourSA's independent organizational structure must be maintained after the transaction is completed. This is intended to ensure the company's operational functioning continues within the established framework.
One of the commitments regarding the acquisition concerns the protection of employment. Accordingly, the total number of employees must be maintained for three years following the merger.
The newly formed structure has also been obligated to provide shelf space, marketing support, and digital sales opportunities to at least 75 SMEs and local producers each year. The decision also includes commitments to provide more space for products from women entrepreneurs and to increase the visibility of domestic and regional products on market shelves.
