In April, this product saw the peak in price

Şemsi Bayraktar, President of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB), issued a press statement regarding price changes between producers and markets, as well as monthly and annual changes in input prices for April.

Bayraktar stated that the price difference between producers and markets in April was highest for dried figs at 284.3 percent, and noted the following:

“The price difference in dried figs was followed by lemons at 229.9 percent, cauliflower at 227.4 percent, raisins at 176.6 percent, and potatoes at 169.5 percent. Dried figs were sold at 3.8 times the producer price, lemons and cauliflower at 3.3 times, raisins at 2.8 times, and potatoes at 2.7 times. Dried figs, which were 115 liras at the producer, were sold for 441 liras and 99 kuruş in the market; lemons, which were 7 liras and 50 kuruş, were sold for 24 liras and 74 kuruş; cauliflower, which was 10 liras and 88 kuruş, was sold for 35 liras and 61 kuruş; raisins, which were 60 liras, were sold for 165 liras and 99 kuruş; and potatoes, which were 10 liras, were sold for 26 liras and 95 kuruş.”

Stating that out of 39 products in the market in April, 22 saw price increases while 17 saw price decreases, Bayraktar said, “The product with the highest price increase in the market in April was onions at 73.8 percent. The price increase in onions was followed by potatoes at 52 percent, lemons at 47.9 percent, chicken meat at 23.2 percent, and cauliflower at 22.9 percent. The product with the highest price decrease in the market was eggplant at 51 percent. The price drop in eggplant was followed by green peppers at 50.7 percent, cucumbers at 31.4 percent, eggs at 19.5 percent, and zucchini at 14.5 percent.”

Addressing the rise in lemon prices, Bayraktar said, “Prices for lemons rose because the season is coming to an end. Prices for green onions and parsley increased due to a decrease in supply. As of the end of the season, prices fell due to a decrease in demand for carrots. Egg prices declined due to a combination of seasonal oversupply in the egg sector and difficulties experienced in exports,” he said.
