Inflation reaction from Memur-Sen President Ali Yalçın: Public servants are in a difficult situation

According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), February inflation stood at 39.05 percent on an annual basis. Memur-Sen President Ali Yalçın emphasized that these figures affect the salary raises of public servants and retirees.

Yalçın said, "The 6 percent increase granted by the Public Servants Arbitration Board has been eroded by inflation. In the coming months, public employees and retirees will continue to struggle against inflation."

Yalçın pointed out that the difference between the Central Bank's inflation forecasts and the actual rates is striking, stating, "These discrepancies increase the income losses of workers." He specifically drew attention to the impact of food inflation on fixed-income citizens during the month of Ramadan.

DEMAND FOR CHANGE IN UNION LAWS

Addressing the inadequacy of current union laws, Yalçın said, "We expect a new union law worthy of the Century of Turkey." Stating that Memur-Sen has been fighting for union rights since 2009, Yalçın emphasized the need to produce solutions suitable for changing conditions.

INFLATION DATA

According to TÜİK data, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.27 percent on a monthly basis in February. The Inflation Research Group (ENAG), meanwhile, announced that inflation in February was 3.37 percent monthly and 79.51 percent annually. These discrepancies lead to differing views regarding the effects of inflation.
