Justice Minister Akın Gürlek detail in the fund crisis: Investigation moved to the CMB in 2025

A striking document has come to light in the fund crisis file, which is at the center of debates regarding capital markets in Turkey.

It was stated that certain capital market transactions related to Pusula Portfolio Chairman of the Board Muhammet Yarız were taken under investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in 2025.

According to the information that has emerged, during the period when Akın Gürlek, who is currently the Minister of Justice, was serving as the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor, an official memorandum was sent to the Capital Markets Board (CMB) on February 26, 2025, by the Bureau of Investigation for Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes.

In the letter sent within the scope of investigation file number 2025/45336, it was stated that unusual movements occurring in the Borsa İstanbul Equity Market were being investigated, and that reports, social media posts, and assessments in the press were taken into consideration.

REQUEST FOR TECHNICAL EXAMINATION FROM THE CMB

It was reported that the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested that the allegations be technically examined by the expert institution, the CMB. The memorandum conveyed information regarding the fact that Muhammet Yarız had received a trading ban on Can2 Termik (CANTE) and Vakıf Finans (VAKFN) shares.

The letter also noted that there was a trading ban on Celal Yarız, the father of Muhammet Yarız, regarding Katılımevim (KTLEV) shares. Manipulation allegations regarding transactions in Katılımevim, Birleşim Grup Enerji (BIGEN), and Mopaş shares were also submitted for the CMB's technical evaluation.

In the letter from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that a detailed investigation be conducted regarding the specified names and transactions, and that if there were any previously initiated or completed examination reports, they should be sent without delay. It was also requested that reports to be prepared for individuals whose findings have been completed be forwarded urgently on a per-person basis without waiting for other examination processes.
