The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has made changes to the regulation regarding the classification of beef carcasses. With the regulation published in the Official Gazette and entering into force, the weight criterion used in determining the market price of beef carcasses has been changed.
According to the new practice, the hot carcass weight will be taken as the basis for price calculation instead of the weight of the carcass after it has been chilled following slaughter. Thus, the cold weight criterion previously used in determining the market price of carcass meat has been abolished.
The regulation was made within the scope of the "Regulation on Amending the Regulation on the Classification of Beef Carcasses." The change covers not only the price calculation but also the unit responsible for the implementation of the regulation.
Accordingly, the tasks and procedures previously carried out by the General Directorate of Food and Control will henceforth be carried out by the General Directorate of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The regulation change entered into force as of the date of its publication.
