Statement from Mehmet Şimşek regarding the IMF's Turkey report

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek made a statement regarding the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) evaluation of Turkey's public financial management and fiscal transparency practices.

Sharing on his social media account, Şimşek noted that Turkey was examined in the Fiscal Transparency Evaluation published by the IMF under the headings of fiscal statistics, budget management, fiscal risks, and accountability.

Şimşek stated that in the 2015 evaluation, Turkey was at a “good” or “advanced” practice level in approximately half of the principles included in the Fiscal Transparency Code, and that this rate rose to two-thirds in the latest evaluation.

Describing this progress as the result of a long-standing institutional transformation process, Şimşek noted that reform efforts to increase fiscal transparency will continue.

The statement made by Şimşek from his X account is as follows:

"The Fiscal Transparency Evaluation, in which Turkey's practices in the areas of fiscal statistics, budget management, fiscal risks, and accountability were examined, has been published by the IMF.

While Turkey was at the good or advanced practice level in approximately half of the principles in the Fiscal Transparency Code in the 2015 evaluation, this rate has risen to two-thirds.

Thus, our country has ranked among the top countries among approximately 40 nations, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Austria, and Portugal, in fiscal transparency.

This significant achievement is a concrete result of the institutional transformation that has been ongoing for over 20 years. Our work on structural reforms that will further increase fiscal transparency continues."
