Claims have emerged that another CHP district mayor in Istanbul will switch to the NEW Party. Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz reported in a post on his social media account that Maltepe Mayor Esin Köymen will join the NEW Party.

In his post, Saymaz stated, "After Kadıköy, another district in Istanbul will switch to the New Party. Maltepe Mayor Esin Köymen is also joining the New Party."

Regarding the process of mayors resigning from the CHP to join the NEW Party, the first notable transition in Istanbul occurred in Kadıköy. Kadıköy Mayor Mesut Kösedağı had announced his decision to join the NEW Party after being referred to the disciplinary board with a request for expulsion from the CHP.

While announcing his decision, Kösedağı stated that he had been consulting with citizens for a month; it was also reported that 30 municipal council members joined the NEW Party along with him. With this development, Kadıköy became the NEW Party's first municipality in Istanbul.
