Support limit for pufferfish hunting increased 5-fold

The support regulation regarding pufferfish hunting, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette. With the new communiqué, the upper limit for support payments made to fishermen hunting invasive pufferfish has been increased.

According to the regulation, the upper limit for certain pufferfish species covered by the support has been raised from 200 thousand to 1 million units. This scope includes the species lagocephalus spadiceus, lagocephalus suezensis, lagocephalus guentheri, tylerius spinosissimus, lagocephalus lagocephalus, sphoeroides pachygaster, and torquigener flavimaculosus.

If the 1 million unit limit is reached for the specified species, purchases will be halted by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture via SUBİS. The decision to halt will be announced on the same day through the General Directorate's website.

The change made within the scope of the "Communiqué on Amending the Communiqué on Supporting Pufferfish Hunting" entered into force effective from January 1, 2026.
