Millions of civil servants and retirees have turned their eyes to the raise rate. 

Inflation, which concerns the salary raises of civil servants and retirees, was determined to be 18.72 percent for the first 4 months. With the May inflation, the data for the first 5 months of the year will become clear. 

Thus, in addition to the collective bargaining raise that civil servants and retirees receive twice a year, the 5-month inflation adjustment will also be determined. The 5-month inflation adjustment will be determined after the May inflation, which will be announced by TÜİK on June 3.

WILL THE RAISE RATE BE 20 PERCENT?

Speaking to an İHA reporter on the subject, Chief Social Security Specialist İsa Karakaş reminded that civil servants and civil servant retirees receive raises twice a year, in January and July.

Karakaş stated that, unlike SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, the salaries of both civil servants and civil servant retirees are based on collective bargaining and are calculated including the adjustment, adding, "As of today, we see that the 4-month inflation was calculated at 18.72 percent. When we take into account the Central Bank's expectation surveys, we can say that the 6-month inflation adjustment is 25 percent. However, a 25 percent increase will not be taken as a basis for civil servants and civil servant retirees. Since it is based on collective bargaining, it has become highly probable that they will receive a raise of between 19.5 and 20.50 percent, or 20 percent in round numbers. The final result will, of course, emerge with the raise adjustment to be announced on July 3," he stated.

WILL SALARY EQUALIZATION BE DONE?

Karakaş said that civil servant retirees have an expectation for salary equalization with SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, stating, "When we look at the past, the salaries of SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees were equalized with civil servant retirees in December 2023. Since there was equalization in previous periods as well, civil servant retirees naturally have expectations for a 25 percent raise instead of 20 percent by equalizing with SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees," he said.

WILL A WELFARE SHARE BE ADDED?

Karakaş also said he believes the economic management will remain subject to legal regulations regarding the raise, evaluating, "According to the information we have obtained, we can say that views favoring that all raises to be made should be carried out exactly according to the legal regulations in their own channels, and that no equalization, welfare share, or state support should be provided above that, have gained weight, especially within the economic management. In this sense, we can say that a raise of around 20 percent on average for civil servants is highly probable. Therefore, we foresee that there will be no equalization, welfare share, or state support for civil servants, that is, working civil servants," he assessed.
