Five suspects were detained in an operation conducted as part of an investigation into allegations of manipulative transactions and unfair gains in capital markets. It was learned that former AKP Ankara MP Ertan Aydın was among those detained.
SÖZCÜ columnist İsmail Saymaz recounted the shock Aydın experienced after learning that his name was included in the criminal complaint filed by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). Speaking on the "Günaydın Türkiyem" program hosted by İsmail Küçükkaya on SÖZCÜ TV, Saymaz shared details regarding his conversation with Aydın before the detention process.
According to Saymaz, after seeing his name in the SPK bulletin, Aydın said, "I swear, I am in shock." Stating that Aydın reacted by asking, "What does this have to do with me? Why am I here?", Saymaz noted that the former MP said he did not remember making any transactions related to the stock in question.
SPK'S CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AND THE TERA CONNECTION
Saymaz stated that the SPK filed a criminal complaint against 22 people in the bulletin published on October 16, and that one of these individuals was Ertan Aydın. It was reported that the same bulletin announced a two-year trading ban for 22 people and 4 companies.
Stating that the investigation is linked to allegations of market fraud involving Vişne Madencilik shares, Saymaz explained that Aydın previously served as an independent board member at TERA. According to Saymaz, during their conversation, Aydın argued that he did not sign any documents during his tenure at TERA and did not engage in buying or selling shares.
Saymaz reported that Aydın asked, "Was I included in this matter because I was an independent board member at TERA?" and noted that the former MP said, "Why am I held responsible for the movements of Vişne Madencilik as a board member? I had no involvement whatsoever."
Ertan Aydın served as an advisor during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's tenure as prime minister; he became the chief advisor for political affairs in 2012. Elected as an AKP MP for Ankara in 2015, Aydın took part in Erdoğan's election campaigns and was known as the architect of the "Century of Türkiye" concept.
Saymaz said that Aydın's name had been discussed in AKP circles after the fund investigation began, and that the process accelerated following the SPK bulletin. Stating that the news of the detention was heard by the public on Thursday, Saymaz conveyed that his own information was that Aydın was detained on Wednesday evening.
