Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek to visit China

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek will travel to Beijing, the capital of China, to attend the Second Meeting of the Turkey-China Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee (ICC), which serves as the highest-level consultation mechanism between the two countries.

As part of his official contacts in Beijing, Şimşek will first attend the Joint Working Group Meeting on November 6 to discuss the harmonization of the Middle Corridor Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative.

The "Memorandum of Understanding on the Harmonization of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road with the Middle Corridor Initiative" was signed in Antalya in 2015. In this context, the first meeting of the Joint Working Group envisioned under the memorandum will be held.

In addition to the harmonization of the two initiatives, the meeting will address cooperation in the fields of air and land transport connectivity, green transition, energy, industry, and investments, as well as commercial and economic issues.

MEETING TO BE HELD UNDER ŞİMŞEK'S CO-CHAIR

As part of his official contacts, Şimşek will attend the Second Meeting of the Turkey-China ICC, the highest-level consultation mechanism between the two countries, on November 7.

The committee is co-chaired by Minister Şimşek and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing. High-level representatives from the relevant ministries of both countries will also be present at the meeting.

Established by a memorandum of understanding signed in Beijing in 2015, the committee carries out tasks such as identifying priority areas for cooperation between the parties, comprehensively evaluating the two countries' cooperation in politics, economy, trade, energy, transportation, security, culture, tourism, and other fields, and improving communication between the two nations.

The committee, whose first meeting was held in Ankara on November 4, 2016, will convene for the first time in 8 years.
