TÜİK releases latest unemployment data
According to TÜİK's Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed people decreased by 168 thousand in June, while the idle labor force rate fell to 28.8 percent.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released labor force statistics for the June 2026 period. According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over decreased by 168 thousand compared to the previous month, falling to 2 million 688 thousand.
The unemployment rate was calculated at 7.6 percent for the same period, a decrease of 0.5 percentage points. The rate was estimated at 6.5 percent for men and 9.8 percent for women.
The number of employed persons increased by 227 thousand on a monthly basis in June, reaching 32 million 733 thousand. The employment rate also rose by 0.3 percentage points to 48.9 percent. This rate was recorded at 66.1 percent for men and 32.0 percent for women.
The labor force reached 35 million 420 thousand, an increase of 58 thousand compared to the previous month. The labor force participation rate rose by 0.1 percentage points to 52.9 percent. The participation rate was determined to be 70.7 percent for men and 35.4 percent for women.
The unemployment rate for the youth population, covering the 15-24 age group, also declined. The youth unemployment rate fell by 1.8 percentage points in June compared to the previous month, reaching 12.8 percent. In this age group, the rate was estimated at 10.4 percent for men and 17.3 percent for women.
The average weekly actual working hours of those employed and at work during the reference period, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, increased by 0.1 hours to 42.5 hours.
The idle labor force rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, the potential labor force, and the unemployed, decreased by 2.0 percentage points in June to 28.8 percent. The combined rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 18.5 percent, while the combined rate of the unemployed and the potential labor force was 19.2 percent.
