44 forest fires in two months in Çanakkale: More than 541 hectares damaged
44 forest fires were recorded in the gendarmerie zone between June 1 and August 3; 41 people were detained, and 23 individuals were fined.
The toll of forest fires that occurred between June 1 and August 3 in areas under the responsibility of the gendarmerie in Çanakkale has been announced. During this period, a total of 541.289 hectares of forest land were damaged in 44 forest fires.
It was stated that the damaged area is equivalent to the size of approximately 758 football fields. In the same period, 192 rural area fires were also recorded in the city.
41 people were detained in the investigations conducted regarding the fires. Various judicial and administrative proceedings were initiated against the suspects.
The Çanakkale Provincial Gendarmerie Command has also increased its inspection and awareness activities against fire risks. Within the scope of Community-Supported Security Services, 475 awareness activities were carried out in 12 districts with 178 teams and 742 personnel.
As part of these efforts, notifications were issued to 1,315 combine harvester and baler operators as well as farmers. A total of 85 thousand 215 TL in administrative fines were imposed on 23 individuals determined to have not complied with the rules.
