Stubble fire quickly engulfed forest area
A stubble fire that started in the Malkara district of Tekirdağ spread to the Esendik Forest due to the wind. A total of 100 decares of land were damaged in the fire, which was brought under control after three hours of intensive intervention.
A fire broke out in a field in the Esendik neighborhood of Tekirdağ's Malkara district around 17:00 for reasons yet to be determined. The flames, which grew rapidly, spread to the neighboring forest area due to the effect of strong winds.
Upon notification, teams from the Forestry Directorate and firefighters from the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality were dispatched to the region. Numerous water tankers and heavy machinery were also used to combat the fire. The intervention was carried out not only from the ground but also from the air; a firefighting plane and two firefighting helicopters participated in the operations.
As a result of intensive efforts lasting approximately three hours, the fire was completely brought under control. According to initial assessments, 50 decares of agricultural land and 50 decares of forest area were damaged in the fire.
While cooling efforts by the teams continue at the scene, an investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
