Statement from Nahit Eren regarding the Narin Güran murder trial

Former Diyarbakır Bar Association President Nahit Eren made statements regarding the first hearing of the Narin Güran murder trial, which he has been following from the beginning. Following the hearing, which began on Thursday, November 7, and continued for 3 days, Eren said, "We made a promise to Narin. We reiterate our commitment to the legal struggle to ensure that the material truth is revealed in all its aspects and that justice is served for Narin."

Stating that a working team consisting of lawyers with experience in similar case files had been formed, Eren continued his words as follows:

"Our primary effort was to ensure the identification, prosecution, and sentencing of the person or persons who murdered an eight-year-old child within her own social circle. With this goal, we aimed to protect the right to life of all our children, represented by Narin, and to contribute to the development of sound policies for the protection of our children's right to life."

Eren continued his speech as follows:

"As of today, we have completed the first hearing process, which lasted over three days. I would like to thank my colleagues on the team with whom I took responsibility in the Narin file with great sacrifice and effort; the President and administrators of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB), Bar Association Presidents, representatives of Bar Associations and NGOs, and lawyers who were present in the courtroom with their support, solidarity, and requests to join; my colleagues representing the Ministry of Family and Social Services, my colleagues who are members of the Diyarbakır Bar Association who did not leave us alone by taking their places in the hall at every moment of the hearing, and the students of Dicle University Faculty of Law; the press workers who followed the hearing moment by moment for the public's right to information, and all political party representatives and members of parliament who followed the hearing as observers."

'I STILL APOLOGIZE'

"In order to reveal the material truth in the file, as in every murder case, we were forced to touch upon sensitive topics from time to time during the hearing. I ask everyone we may have upset or hurt due to the sensitive content we were forced to voice during the hearing out of professional necessity to understand us, and on my own behalf, I apologize despite everything."

At the end of his statement, Nahit Eren emphasized that they would continue their legal struggle for Narin Güran to the end.
