Does eating rice cause hair loss? A dermatology expert explains
Dietitian Canan Karatay sparked a debate by stating, "Men should not eat too much rice. Rice is the primary cause of hair loss." Speaking to 12punto.com.tr, dermatology specialist Op. Dr. İlhan Serdaroğlu emphasized that this claim does not reflect the truth, stating, "In all my years, I have never heard that rice causes hair loss."
Dietitian Canan Karatay has created a stir with her comments on rice.
Karatay stated, "Men are very fond of rice; they should not sit and eat rice constantly. It may be delicious, but it is the primary cause of hair loss. This is because rice contains a lot of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates cause blood sugar to spike suddenly, which weakens hair follicles. When hair follicles weaken, hair loss becomes inevitable."
'ACCORDING TO WHAT SCIENTIFIC DATA DID SHE SAY THIS?'
Following this comment by Canan Karatay, dermatology specialist Op. Dr. İlhan Serdaroğlu spoke to 12punto.com.tr about the subject, stating, "I wonder on what scientific data she based this? Personally, in all my years, I have never heard that rice causes hair loss," expressing that Karatay's statement is not based on scientific data and lacks validity.
