West Nile Virus alert in Greece: Number of cases rises to 65 in one week

An increase has been recorded in cases of the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus in Greece.

The National Public Health Organization of Greece (EODY) announced that 23 new cases have been detected in the last week, bringing the total number of cases to 65.

According to the statement, 22 of the new cases presented with severe symptoms affecting the nervous system. Mild symptoms were detected in one person.

The regions where the virus has been observed were announced as Attica, Thessaly, Central Macedonia, and Western Greece. It was reported that 4 people have lost their lives in the country this year due to the West Nile Virus.

Authorities emphasized that the elderly and individuals with chronic illnesses, in particular, should be careful against mosquito bites.

Citizens were urged to use protective clothing, utilize mosquito repellent products, and avoid stagnant water pools.
