Controversy over conflicting reports in Kozinoğlu case: Pro-government media at odds

The case concerning the death of former MIT Asia Regional Chief Consultant Kaşif Kozinoğlu has returned to the agenda, with conflicting reports in the press sparking controversy. Following the exhumation of Kozinoğlu’s grave, one report highlighted allegations of “poisoning,” while another report, shared shortly thereafter and citing a Council of Forensic Medicine report, stated that the cause of death was heart disease.

A report in the Sabah newspaper claimed that the autopsy and laboratory reports for Kozinoğlu had been obtained and that a “lethal poison” was found in the grave. The report stated that the grave was opened under the instruction of the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and that suspicions of murder were being investigated.

In contrast, a report sourced from DHA noted that the 1st Specialization Board report of the Council of Forensic Medicine had been sent to the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; the report stated that there was no medical evidence that Kozinoğlu died from a traumatic effect or poisoning, and that it was assessed that the death occurred as a result of heart disease.

CLAIMS THAT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE WILL OBJECT

Another development that fueled the debate was a report published on Sontv. The report alleged that the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office would object to the two conclusions in the Forensic Medicine report. The same report raised the questions: “Why was poisoning ruled out despite the detection of heavy metals? Why was the cause of death attributed to heart disease?”

The Kozinoğlu case is being mentioned alongside some other investigations that have been reopened recently. In this context, the return of the Gülistan Doku case to the agenda and new steps taken in certain files have been the subject of various interpretations regarding internal government balances and judicial maneuvers.

One of the names mentioned in the file is retired Colonel Hasan Atilla Uğur. Sources state that a house arrest decision was issued for Uğur, who shared a cell with Kozinoğlu during the Ergenekon trial, and that this decision is noteworthy regarding the course of the investigation.

A letter allegedly written by Kozinoğlu before his death is also cited as one of the reasons for the renewed debate over the file. It is reported that in the letter in question, Kozinoğlu voiced allegations regarding MIT and the Fethullah Gülen organization, and made accusations against Hakan Fidan and certain political actors of the period.

The final legal assessment regarding Kozinoğlu's death is expected to become clear following the steps to be taken by the prosecutor's office and potential objections to the reports. The conflicting information reflected in the public domain regarding the file keeps the debate alive as to how the investigation will proceed.
