Ümit Kocasakal, who was elected president of the Istanbul Bar Association, officially began his term at a handover ceremony held at the bar association building in Taksim. Kocasakal took over the office from İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kocasakal emphasized that the Istanbul Bar Association is a large and deep-rooted institution. Stating that presidential duties are transferred between individuals, Kocasakal expressed that the process should be viewed as a "relay race."
"Ultimately, effort has been put into this place over the past 2 years. This election is also a relay race. We are taking the baton from you in a way, and tomorrow we will pass it on to someone else. Therefore, we must build upon what has been achieved."
Kocasakal stated that the reputation of the Istanbul Bar Association is above all else and that they will protect its institutional integrity. Pointing out that while administrations change, the institutional culture remains permanent, Kocasakal expressed that the new administration will act with this understanding.
Stating that they must act together in the face of lawyers' problems, threats, and attacks on the reputation of the bar, Kocasakal said that political stances or lines do not hinder this solidarity.
İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu, who handed over the office, provided Kocasakal with information about the projects carried out during his term, the library construction, and ongoing files. The ceremony concluded with Kocasakal presenting flowers to Kaboğlu.
