Following the revelation of the incident, curator Peter Higgs, who worked in the field of Mediterranean cultures and Hellenistic period sculptures and artifacts, was dismissed from his post.

The British Museum has filed a lawsuit against Higgs. New details regarding the theft emerged at the hearing held today.

While Higgs was not present in the courtroom, his lawyers also refrained from making a statement.

The British Museum announced that the stolen items included gold rings, earrings, and other pieces of jewelry from the ancient Greek and Roman periods.

The statements of the museum's lawyer, Daniel Burgess, which were entered into the court records, were as follows:

"While the exact extent of the theft is unknown, we currently believe that more than 1,800 items have been stolen or damaged, and that hundreds have been sold or offered for sale by (Higgs)."
