Burcu Köksal, now with AKP, denies speaking rights; session ends in tension
A dispute arose during the Afyonkarahisar Municipal Council meeting over granting speaking rights to the YENİ Party group, leading to a tense conclusion to the session.
During the latest meeting of the Afyonkarahisar Municipal Council, a dispute over speaking rights occurred between the opposition and Mayor Burcu Köksal while agenda items were being discussed.
It is alleged that Köksal, who was presiding over the council session for the first time since joining the AKP, did not grant the YENİ Party group the floor during the agenda. It was stated that the opposition group's speeches would be deferred until the end of the agenda.
The speaking opportunity granted after the completion of the agenda items was dismissed by the opposition as "token." Speaking on behalf of the YENİ Party Group, Municipal Council Member Attorney Ramazan Akgöz began to voice his criticisms regarding the municipal administration.
It is claimed that Köksal interrupted Akgöz during his speech, leading to a verbal altercation between the parties. As the argument escalated, it is alleged that Köksal closed the session and left the hall.
The fact that the meeting ended in a tense atmosphere has brought a new controversy to local politics in Afyonkarahisar.
