Shoulder-to-shoulder battle against the flames in Muğla
As aerial and ground operations continue non-stop against the forest fire in the Seydikemer district of Muğla, volunteers eager to protect the 'green homeland' have arrived at the scene to support the firefighting efforts.
According to the information obtained, a fire that started for an as-yet-undetermined reason in an agricultural area in the Bayır neighborhood of Seydikemer district at approximately 07:45 spread to the forest area in a short time due to the effect of strong winds.
Upon notification, the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry and the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams were dispatched to the region. The fire is being intervened with intensely both from the air and from the ground. Teams are racing against time to bring the fire, which has continued to have an effect despite more than 10 hours passing, under control.
While 5 aircraft and 18 helicopters operating in the region have been making sorties throughout the day to drop water on the flames, ground teams are trying to stop the progress of the fire with fire trucks, water tankers, construction equipment, and riot control vehicles (TOMA). In the extinguishing efforts, where approximately one thousand personnel are involved, the wind, which increases in intensity from time to time, makes the work of the teams difficult. Despite the flames rising meters high, the teams working with great devotion are making an intense effort to prevent the fire from reaching residential areas.
They came to help for the green homeland
Volunteers who came to Seydikemer from Fethiye with their friends as soon as they heard the news of the fire also supported the struggle. Stating that they set out to protect the green homeland, Rahman Hüseyin Töngül said that they have been working in the fire zone for hours. Töngül stated, "We are from Fethiye ourselves. When we heard about the fire in Seydikemer, we came here with our friends to help. We have been here for 3-4 hours."
While the support of volunteer citizens in the fire zone boosts the morale of the extinguishing efforts carried out by the teams, the solidarity shown to protect the green homeland has also drawn attention.
Efforts to bring the fire under control continue non-stop from the air and the ground.
