Workplace fire in Pendik: Building evacuated

A fire broke out at a workplace involved in the production and sale of packaging materials, located on the ground floor of an 8-story building in Pendik, Istanbul. The fire on Marmara Street in the Çamçeşme neighborhood began around 07:20 in the morning for reasons yet to be determined.

Upon reports from those in the vicinity, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the area. While police teams closed the street to traffic, firefighters intervened to extinguish the flames.

Due to the fire, residents of the building were evacuated by fire crews. After approximately 1 hour of work, the fire was brought under control and extinguished. While the workplace was rendered unusable, there were no deaths or injuries in the incident.

Halit Başarslan, one of the building's residents, stated that they went outside in a panic when the fire alarm went off, saying, "We don't know how the fire started. The entire building has been evacuated. There are no injuries or loss of life. This place is a business that sells packaging materials and decorative items."

It was learned that people in the vicinity also attempted to intervene in the fire during its initial moments. Muammer Polat said that they saw the fire just as it was starting while on their way to work, and that they whistled to warn those in the building and called the fire department.

Police teams have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
