Masked Years in the CHP: 12punto columnist Nur Serter recounts the transformation of the CHP in her book
12punto columnist Prof. Dr. Nur Serter examines the transformation that has marked the last 20 years of the CHP in her book "Masked Years in the CHP," drawing on her own testimonies and various documents. The process, ranging from the tape operation targeting Baykal to the Kılıçdaroğlu era, and from the internal party transformation to the purging of nationalist and Kemalist cadres, is scrutinized through evidence and testimonies.
2010-2024 have been the most critical dates in the last 20 years of the CHP.
Secularism, the 'Neo-CHP', allegations related to FETÖ, controversial advisory staff, reconciliations, and expulsions have been at the top of the CHP's agenda since 2010. The process initiated with these allegations also became a symbol of the transformation within the CHP.
Prof. Dr. Nur Serter, in her book MASKED YEARS IN THE CHP, explains the stages of the process that began with the "tape operation" against Deniz Baykal in May 2010, and with what support and cooperation of which forces the Party of Atatürk was intended to be erased from politics, along with the reasons and documents. She presents evidence from the foreign press, reports from CIA-linked organizations, and US Embassy correspondence.
She recounts Kılıçdaroğlu's arrival with her own testimony.
She conveys the process by which the CHP was stripped of its identity, shifted to a neo-liberal axis, and purged of nationalist and Kemalist cadres, as well as the events experienced during the struggle waged on this issue, through her own direct experiences.
She emphasizes that the CHP is the backbone of Turkish politics and that the blow dealt to this backbone aimed to cripple not only the Party of Atatürk but also the founding ideology of the Republic.
The book aims to record history by containing concrete evidence based on records kept in previous years and transcribed texts of statements made.
The book, which bears witness to a very important period of Turkish politics, clearly reveals those who had a share in the transformation process targeting Secularism and the Unitary Structure, which are the most fundamental guarantees of the Republic.
Evaluating the second period, which began with the detention of the Esenyurt Mayor in 2024 and continues with Kılıçdaroğlu, who was made chairman again in the CHP with "absolute nullity," Nur Serter also makes critical warnings to the New Party.
