Akşener had called her 'my daughter': That figure has also resigned

Following the resignation of IYI Party Founders' Board member and Ankara Deputy Koray Aydın, Sevin Çağlayan, one of the founders of the IYI Party whom former leader Meral Akşener had referred to as "my daughter," has also resigned from the party. Echoing similar sentiments to Aydın, Çağlayan stated that the final straw was Akşener's meeting with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Beştepe Presidential Complex.

Akşener had called her 'my daughter': That figure has also resigned

Entering the March 31 local elections "free and independent," the IYI Party remained far behind the results it had expected. The resignations and criticisms that began after the election have opened the door to a new era within the party following the Akşener-Erdoğan meeting.

Sevin Çağlayan, whom former IYI Party ChairMeral Akşener had described by saying, "She is my daughter, I will stand behind Sevin to the end," announced her resignationon her social media account, saying, "A farewell from me as well."

Çağlayan used the following expressions:

"A FAREWELL FROM ME AS WELL....

Our home, where our cause and principles were blended—the IYI Party—was born as a rebellion, an existence, and above all, a hope for liberation from the tyrannical palace administration that has descended upon this country like a nightmare.

I proudly served as a member of the Founders' Board, a member of the General Administrative Board, a parliamentary candidate, and a mayoral candidate for the IYI Party, the 'Movement of the Brave' that embraces nationalist and democratic patriots in the footsteps of the great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

In this arduous process, we sadly observed that the IYI Party, into which we poured our all, contained many errors and irreparable problems despite all efforts, throughout the 2023 general election process, the subsequent congress, the 2024 local elections we entered despite everything, and the new restructuring that took place following the Grand Assembly.

Furthermore, while the allegations raised during the general and local election processes, and subsequently during the new restructuring, hurt us, the silence of those who should have responded and their failure to provide the necessary reactions have finally brought me to a crossroads.

The final straw was the meeting held by the IYI Party's Founding Chair, Meral Akşener, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Palace—a meeting that contained many allegations but whose reason and content were never explained. The current party leadership did not take a clear stance on this meeting either.

Following this meeting, the fundamental belief of the IYI Party's elders, which states:

"The IYI Party set out as a noble movement of rebellion to rebuild a full and complete democracy against the one-man regime that demolished the principle of separation of powers between the legislature, executive, and judiciary—the foundation of democracy—and against the Palace regime that is the symbol of this order. It was not founded to discuss the possibility of an IYI Party member serving in this grotesque system." This approach will shed light on my future political life, and I will continue my work for the benefit and advancement of our country, as I have done until now, in the footsteps of the GREAT ATATÜRK.

In short, the reason for my departure is not just a congress or simple mistakes. It is a series of errors and erosion spread over a long period of time.

I greet all my colleagues who have worked selflessly from the very beginning to build hope for their country with respect and honor. I wish success to our friends who continue to engage in politics within the IYI Party.

I hereby inform the public that I have ended my political association with the IYI Party and have resigned.

With my regards."
