Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP İstanbul Provincial Presidency, has apologized, stating that he had not listened to the audio recording containing insults beforehand.
Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP İstanbul Provincial Presidency, has apologized for an audio recording containing insulting remarks directed at BirGün reporter Ebru Çelik.
Tekin had targeted Çelik during a press conference he held following a report that raised allegations that "extras were brought in via casting agencies" for a new CHP member participation ceremony; during the meeting, an audio recording containing insults directed at the journalist was played.
Responding to a question on the matter during a television program he attended, Tekin stated that he was saddened by the situation. Tekin argued that he had not listened to the audio recording before the press statement.
Tekin's statement came after the audio recording in question drew public backlash.
