‘Archers' Hill’ analogy sparks debate within AKP

AKP Deputy Chairman Ahmet Büyükgümüş's “Archers' Hill” analogy regarding AKP figures whose names were mentioned in the fund scandal has sparked a debate.

During a program he attended, Büyükgümüş compared the individuals in question to the archers who abandoned their posts during the Battle of Uhud, stating, “Just as those who were assigned to guard the Archers' Hill but abandoned their duty to chase after spoils were humiliated in history, they will be humiliated today and always.”

Following the statement, many users on social media reacted to the analogy. Among the criticisms, a post by legal scholar Selman Öğüt, known for his proximity to the AKP, drew attention.

In his post on his social media account, Öğüt criticized Büyükgümüş's words, saying, “It was a poor comparison. Is it possible to equate our companions of the Prophet with thieves? This post should be deleted and an apology should be issued.”

In the Battle of Uhud, the abandonment of their positions by a portion of the archers assigned by Prophet Muhammad to protect the rear of the army is described as one of the developments that changed the course of the battle. Today, the phrase “Archers' Hill” is used as a historical symbol regarding commitment to duty and responsibility.
