Balance of power shifts after Mansur Yavaş's resignation: 30 members resign from CHP in Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council

Following Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş's announcement that he has resigned from the CHP, a series of resignations have taken place in the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council.

According to a report by BirGün, 30 CHP members in the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council have resigned from the party. With this development, it was reported that the number of CHP members in the council, which was 41, has dropped to 11.

Yavaş announced his decision to resign on his social media account. Stating that he made his decision after a "long period of reflection" and a "weighing of conscience," Yavaş expressed that he would continue his path as an independent.

In his statement, Yavaş also touched upon the legal and political debates recently experienced in Turkish politics and closed the door on claims that he would join the AKP. Emphasizing the will of the voters, Yavaş stated that voters cast their ballots not only for a name but also for a political will.

It has been suggested that some of the 30 council members who resigned will join the YENİ Party, while the majority will act according to Yavaş's future decisions.
