Heated polemic between Cemal Enginyurt and Süleyman Soylu: 'Dirty business happened during the former Minister's term'

Independent MP Cemal Enginyurt targeted former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu during his speech at the budget negotiations in the TBMM. 

Enginyurt included the following statements in his speech: 

"I was very moved while listening to Minister Ali Yerlikaya; it was a very beautiful speech! Such good things have been done during this cabinet's term that they have resolved all the irregularities committed by the CHP during the previous cabinet's term! So much has happened! All the dirty business happened during the former minister and cabinet's term."

These remarks by Enginyurt drew attention during the session in the TBMM and caused controversy.

'SEDAT PEKER IS MINE' STATEMENT RECALLED 

Enginyurt's criticisms of Soylu were not the first. In a previous speech, he had used the phrase "From now on, Sedat Peker is mine" in reference to Soylu.

RESPONSE FROM SOYLU VIA SOCIAL MEDIA  

Former Interior Minister and AK Party Istanbul MP Süleyman Soylu responded to Cemal Enginyurt's statements via social media. Soylu, also attaching the praise-filled posts Enginyurt had made about him in the past, stated the following:

"Just as the praise he heaped upon me in the past has zero value, what he says today has no value either."

"LET THEM DO THEIR WORST"

Soylu's post is as follows:

"The slanders the aforementioned person has made regarding my person are a matter of law and politics. However, responding to the slander that the number of PKK terrorists in the mountains was not 77 in May 2023 by distorting the statement in the budget in our Veteran Parliament is a necessity of our respect for the fight against terrorism carried out by our state and our heroes with sacrifices.

The number of terrorists inside the country (in the mountains), which was 77 that day, is half that today. These numbers are determined as a result of assessments made twice a year by the General Staff, MIT, Gendarmerie, and the Police.

However, the figure stated in the budget is the total number of those detained, arrested, captured dead, and surrendered and neutralized in the city and rural areas in the fight against all terrorist organizations (1381).

We will not let the sacrifices of our heroes be used as appetizers by those who clamor morning and night against the state and the nation, by gambling tables, stock market speculators, and influence peddlers.

Just as the praise he heaped upon me in the past has zero value, what he says today has no value either.

We look at the words to see if they are words, and we look at the speaker to see if they are a person. Those who have no success in their lives can only wallow in their mudslinging politics.

Let them do their worst."
