While marches and torchlight processions were held across the country as part of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic, the absence of Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay from the event in İzmir drew attention.
It was noted that Tugay, who has recently been on the agenda due to his transition to the AKP, did not attend the torchlight procession held this year as part of the Republic Day events.
In a statement made by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, it was stated that Tugay was at the reception organized by the İzmir Governor's Office at the same time.
REACTION REGARDING ELECTRICITY FROM THE NEW PARTY MEMBER
Another debate regarding the celebrations at Republic Square took place over claims concerning electricity.
YENİ Party İzmir Provincial Chair Çağatay Güç reacted to the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, alleging that electricity was not provided to the ceremony area.
In his statement, Güç said, "We are going through difficult times. We received news from the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. They did not connect the electricity. We rented our own generator, and we are currently delivering our speech."
