The congress calendar, which was announced by the CHP Headquarters to begin on October 28, has been postponed for at least 15 days, citing technical issues encountered in the preparation of member lists.
In accordance with the Law on Political Parties, parties must base their congress delegate elections on the member lists reported to the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation. It was stated that the CHP Headquarters had prepared the charts regarding the official member lists required for the congress process, but that a delay occurred in this preparation due to technical reasons.
According to the previously announced calendar, district congresses were scheduled to be held on December 12, and provincial congresses on January 16. The congress process was planned to be completed on February 14, with the 38th Ordinary Convention to be held in the spring of 2027.
Due to the postponement, other dates in the congress process are also expected to be rescheduled. It was stated that an assessment of how the process will proceed will be addressed at the Central Executive Board meeting to be held under the chairmanship of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Another issue that could affect the calendar is the ongoing review at the Court of Cassation. The process regarding the decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice, which ordered the removal of Özgür Özel and the party administration from office as a precautionary measure on the grounds of "absolute nullity" in the CHP convention case, and the handover of duties to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his administration, has not yet been completed.
According to party sources, if the Court of Cassation does not issue an approval decision and the precautionary measure remains in effect, further changes to the congress calendar are considered possible.
