CHP Mayor Ahmet Akın began the day with a prayer of gratitude
Ahmet Akın, who became the Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality by receiving approximately 50 percent of the vote according to unofficial results in the March 31 Local Elections, performed the morning prayer and offered a prayer of gratitude with local tradespeople at Balıkesir's historic Zağnos Paşa Mosque.
Ahmet Akın of the CHP, who emerged victorious from the election race in Balıkesir, performed the morning prayer at the historic Zağnos Paşa Mosque, also known as the mosque where Atatürk delivered a sermon.
After the prayer, Akın chatted with the mosque congregation and visited the tomb of Zağnos Paşa to offer prayers.
Speaking to members of the press afterward, Akın said, "May it be auspicious for our country. I thank my Balıkesir family. First of all, I want to tell my working brothers and sisters, my friends working at the municipality, that they will continue their jobs in peace. There should be no trouble or fear. Let us put them at ease. We have set out on a path, let us continue on our way. We have offered our prayer of gratitude. We will not let our country down."
Citizens who saw him in the mosque courtyard greeted Ahmet Akın. An elderly woman approached him and said, "While you were going to the election, I recited 3 Ayetel Kursi for you. May God clear your path, my child." Akın later spoke with municipal staff who were performing morning cleaning duties.
