CHP Spokesperson Sarı: A significant portion of the 500,000 members who joined in the last two years have left

Making statements after the approximately 3-hour meeting of the CHP Central Executive Board, Party Spokesperson Müslüm Sarı evaluated the membership activity and the resignations of mayors within the party.

Sarı stated that approximately 500,000 new members had joined the CHP in the last two years, noting that a significant portion of these members had left the party. Expressing that the data regarding member resignations is tracked through the party system, Sarı argued that some figures do not reflect the truth.

Müslüm Sarı used the following expressions:

I do not know where Mr. Önder Sav got this figure, but these figures are not correct. Approximately 500,000 new members had joined the Republican People's Party in the last two years. We see that a significant portion of these members have left the Republican People's Party. That is all there is to the matter.

Touching upon the resignations of mayors, Sarı noted that as of now, approximately 120 mayors appear to have parted ways with the CHP.

Sarı stated that only two of these municipalities were metropolitan municipalities, and that 10 out of the 12 metropolitan municipalities belonging to the CHP continue to engage in politics within the party.

Responding to allegations regarding the intra-party disciplinary process, Sarı stated that action will be taken against individuals who are CHP members but work for another political party. Sarı said, “We will initiate a disciplinary process regarding our friends who are within the Republican People's Party and continue their existence as its members, but who work for another political party.”

Regarding Edirne Deputy Ediz Ün, who returned to the CHP after the completion of his legal process, Sarı gave the message that their doors are open. Stating, “Our doors are open to everyone who comes back cleared if they wish to engage in politics within the Republican People's Party,” Sarı expressed that the party cannot be a structure that includes “dubious” names.

Following the MYK meeting, provincial chair appointments for some provinces were also announced. Accordingly, Emin Kalyoncu in Amasya, Ahmet Özdemir in Artvin, Fikret Şahin in Balıkesir, Recep Mutlucan in Burdur, Ahmet Nejat Karaibrahim in Giresun, Tuncay Yılmaz in Çorum, Muhammed Baran Karahan in Kars, Uğur Alemdar in Kastamonu, Nihat Sargın in Kütahya, Muhittin Bayrak in Rize, Mustafa Gültekin in Trabzon, and Olcay Can in Zonguldak were appointed as provincial chairs.
