Court lifts injunction, but Gürsel Tekin is not leaving

The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance has decided to lift the preliminary injunctions that were applied with an interim decision dated September 2, 2025, regarding the process of the CHP İstanbul Provincial Congress. With this decision, it was stated that Gürsel Tekin's role as CHP İstanbul Provincial Chair, which he was carrying out under the injunction, has ended.

The court also ruled that a copy of the decision be sent to the Istanbul Provincial Election Board, the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board, and the Istanbul Governorship.

Following the decision, Gürsel Tekin made a statement arguing that his duty has not completely ended. Speaking to Bengü Türk TV, Tekin said that while his duties under the scope of the injunction-based appointment have ended with the lifting of the decision, he was subsequently appointed as provincial chair by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

Since the decision that brought us to the position under an injunction has been lifted, our duty in that regard has ended. Because Mr. Kemal subsequently appointed me as provincial chair, my duty continues with the status of an 'appointee'.

In a post on his social media account, Tekin also emphasized his responsibility toward the CHP. In his statement, Tekin said, “For us, positions are temporary; our responsibility and struggle for the Republican People's Party are permanent. We will continue to fulfill every responsibility that falls upon us to protect the unity, legal standing, and future of our party, just as we have done in the past.”
