DEM Party denies claims it withdrew its Izmit candidate

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has issued a statement regarding claims that it would withdraw its own mayoral candidate in Izmit to support CHP candidate Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet.

The statement made on the party's official X account read as follows:

“Claims that we have withdrawn our own mayoral candidate in Izmit and will support the CHP candidate are baseless. Our mayoral candidate colleague has submitted their application and it has been approved. We wish them success once again. #DemGelirDevranDöner.”

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Following the debates within the CHP in Izmit, the incumbent mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet had initially withdrawn her candidacy but later announced that she was a candidate again. It had been claimed that the DEM Party, which nominated candidates for the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and 8 districts, had withdrawn its Izmit candidate.
