DEM Party responds to the scandal at Sur Municipality: 'It is clear that our Co-Mayors were the first to oppose it'
The DEM Party Central Executive Board has issued a statement regarding the scandals that occurred during the certificate of election ceremony at the Diyarbakır Sur Municipality. Regarding the scandal involving insults directed at the photographs of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the statement said, "It is clearly seen from the footage reflected in the press that our Co-Mayors were the first to oppose and intervene."
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya had stated that civil inspectors were assigned regarding the incidents where the National Anthem was not played and the Turkish flag was removed during the council openings in Mardin and Diyarbakır.
Following Yerlikaya's assignment of inspectors regarding the insulting remarks made during the DEM Party members' Diyarbakır Sur Municipality certificate of election ceremony and the subsequent detention of a suspect, a statement came from the DEM Party.
The statement said, "It is clearly seen from the footage reflected in the press that our Co-Mayors were the first to oppose and intervene regarding the insults and attempts concerning the photographs hanging on the wall by a citizen who has no official relationship with our party or the municipality at the Sur Municipality."
"OUR MUNICIPALITY WILL NOT SHY AWAY FROM ANY INVESTIGATION"

As the DEM Party, our conscience is clear and our heads are held high. Our municipalities will not shy away from any investigation. However, we demand that these investigations be expanded to include robberies, corruption, and plunder in municipalities.

Finally, it is clearly seen from the footage reflected in the press that our Co-Mayors were the first to oppose and intervene regarding the insults and attempts concerning the photographs hanging on the wall by a citizen who has no official relationship with our party or the municipality at the Sur Municipality. We are addressing the dirty circles trying to wear down our municipalities with perception operations; we know very well who you are and what your purpose is, and we will never allow these cheap conspiracies of yours.
In this context, we strongly condemn these dirty schemes carried out through symbols and values. Despite these schemes, we will continue to work with all our might to eliminate the destruction in the cities and municipalities, to provide services to the public, and to protect the public against the economic crisis."
