Derince Mayor Sertif Gökçe resigns from CHP, joins YENİ Party
Sertif Gökçe and 18 municipal council members have left the CHP to join the YENİ Party, founded under the leadership of Özgür Özel.
Sertif Gökçe, the Mayor of Derince in Kocaeli, has announced his resignation from the CHP. It was reported that along with Gökçe, 18 municipal council members have also left the CHP to join the YENİ Party, which was founded under the leadership of Özgür Özel.
In a written statement, Gökçe noted that he became a member of the CHP in 1999 and stated that he entered politics not for personal office or titles, but to serve the country and the nation.
Recalling that he served in various capacities within the CHP, including the youth branches, district administration, and provincial administration, Gökçe emphasized that he is proud to serve the public as the Mayor of Derince.
Gökçe stated that he made his decision based on "conscientious and political responsibility," noting that politics should be conducted not only with loyalty to the past but also with responsibility toward the future.
In the face of the severe economic, social, and political situation our country is in, I believe there is a need for a new understanding, a new excitement, and a political movement that will give hope to society once again.
In his statement, Gökçe shared with the public that he is resigning from his CHP membership with "great respect and gratitude" due to the political situation his party, to which he dedicated many years, has reached today.
