In the Edremit district of Balıkesir, Mayor Mehmet Ertaş and 19 CHP municipal council members have announced their resignation from the Republican People's Party (CHP).
In the statement issued, it was noted that the decision was made as a result of a joint assessment.
The new political address for Ertaş and the accompanying council members is the YENİ Party.
The statement indicated that the decision to resign was made with an emphasis on the "conditions the country is currently in," the "future of democracy," and "responsibility toward the nation."
In his written statement, Mehmet Ertaş noted that he had served under the CHP umbrella for many years and thanked the party members he worked with. Ertaş emphasized that some decisions in politics are not easily made.
Ertaş made the following statement:
"We respectfully announce to the public that we, along with our 19 CHP municipal council member colleagues, have resigned from the Republican People's Party."
