Former CHP deputy passes away: Had resigned from CHP three days ago

Former Tokat deputy Orhan Ziya Diren has passed away. It was learned that 79-year-old Diren died at the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Ankara.

Diren was among the 265 former deputies who resigned from the party on July 27 in protest of what they described as the "absolute nullity administration" within the CHP. Following their resignations, the former deputies announced that they would support the New Party led by Özgür Özel.

Orhan Ziya Diren's funeral will be held in his hometown of Tokat on Saturday, August 1. A ceremony is expected to be held for Diren at the Alipaşa Mosque during the afternoon prayer.

Born in Tokat on March 27, 1947, Diren completed his education at the University of Dijon Faculty of Science, Department of Viticulture and Oenology in France. Having worked for many years in the industrial and food sectors, Diren served as the Chairman of the Board of DİMES Gıda AŞ.

Diren served as a CHP Tokat deputy in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) during the 22nd and 23rd legislative terms, between 2002 and 2011. Married and a father of one, Diren was also the father of TÜSİAD Chairman of the Board Ozan Diren.
